An Interval is a project founded by artists Emma Catacutan and Jon Pylypchuk; currently continued as a curatorial series by Emma Catacutan. Originally operating inside of a lumberyard in Pasadena, we presented the inaugural exhibition Coal Oil & Sugar By Coralys Carter in October 2025. The project is now a monthly curatorial series in San Diego, hosting one day exhibitions in a courtyard between two shops using reclaimed materials such as wood pallets and milk crates to display the work. Each exhibition becomes an interval: a temporary intervention in daily life to celebrate contemporary art and emphasize the act of gathering, treating exhibition-making as mutual aid and an ongoing social practice with the friends, lovers, strangers, and neighbors of San Diego.
DOCUMENTATION FOR CORALYS CARTER, DAVID LOVELL, AND MATTHEW BACHER COMING SOON!
